One comment on “Vertov, Dziga. Man with a Movie Camera, 1/9, 1929

  1. This was an obvious choice for the readings this week. Dziga Veritov’s “Man with a movie camera” is a formalist representation of both an the art of producing in conjunction with the art being produced. By showing the camera, film reels, and other elements of actual systematic production, viewers are almost offered a behind the scenes perspective on the production of film. Through this technique, no longer does the viewer feel intangeably distanced from that which he is viewing. The formalist aspect of SHOWING the means of production invites the viewer to participate in production itself. Like Benjamin emphasized, only through an authors education of others does his being an author become meaningful.
